WC: Painful though it is to admit, Chelsea have a long history of making utterly useless signings. It picked up rather aggressively in the early years of the Abramovich era, when every prospective target suddenly doubled their wage demands with the arrival of a new rich kid on the block, but there was certainly no shortage of hopeless arrivals to choose from before or even in more recent years.
