Max Gradel helped Leeds beat Championship leaders QPR 2-0 at home to go second, while there were wins on the road for Norwich and Reading.
Leeds had gone into the game in fourth place in the table but moved up to second thanks to Gradel's double at Elland Road.
Gradel broke the deadlock after 25 minutes before netting his second on 70 minutes to seal the victory.
