in fairness to players from the past that are supposedly being surpassed: most of the guys back then did not play on teams loaded with superstars the way ronaldo and messi do. that really takes a lot of the pressure off of them and gives them more space, plus defenses can't afford to focus 100% on them when there are so many other threats to worry about.
