Liverpool chairman Tom Werner puts Premier League’s 39th game back on the agenda

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has revived the debate around the proposed Premier League ‘39th game’ by suggesting he would like to see competitive games played overseas.

When the idea of adding an extra game to the Premier League season, to be played in cities across the globe, was first put forward in February 2008 opposition from fans groups, clubs and Fifa, the game’s world governing body, saw it quickly shelved.

It would be a good move for the premier league. Although the teams are famous enough without the extra publicity
