say we have two teams (A and B)
with two players, strikers( A1, B1) and midfielders (A2, B2)
now say A1 has a strike rate of 4/5. ie. given 5 chances he will score 4.
and B1 a strike rate of 2/5. ie given 5 chances, he will score 2 for sure.
now say in a 90 minute match against team C
in team A
A2 creates 5 chances, A1 scores 4/5.
therefore A1 = 4 goals. A2 = 4 assists.
in team B
B2 creates 10 chances, B1 scores 4/10
therefore B1 = 4 goals. B2 = 4 assists.
so on paper or statistically speaking
A1 = B1 and A2 = B2. (4 goals and 4 assists)
however for those that actually watched the matches having seen how many chances were created, wasted, scored everyone can agree that A1>B1 and that B2>A2.
thus proving that players stats depends on the team around them not based 100% individually on their own ability.
whats your guys thoughts?
Football has always been a teams game, where do the strikers get the ball from? their midfielders! where did they get the ball from? the defenders/goalkeeper!
Stats are just they're for stats sake, the finisher of the move gets credited (and the assister [is that a word!?]) but that one goal comes from the whole team.. unless the opposition give you the ball.. :L
