Torres had came off of a bad injury if I remember and was struggling a bit for Liverpool before the Chelsea move. I didn't have the chance to watch Real Madrid play back when Owen moved but regardless, Suarez is on another level to both Torres and Owen, he's going to be fine. Similar story with Bale last season and look at him now.

There will always be some who think like that but being realistic, no one player can win you the world cup and you just have to look at the recent winners to see the depth and strength of their squads throughout the field. Neither Portugal nor Argentina have that sort of strength or depth at present.

I can see why people say it's not fair and agree to an extent that the process needs re-evaluating but at the end of the day, both Ronaldo and Messi are on a completely different level to everyone else in the world. I don't have the luxury of seeing Ribery play every week so can't comment on him personally but from what I've seen of him, he's a quality player but still not on the same level as Ronaldo and Messi.

I wouldn't go that far.. I doubt Messi would dare go up to Puyol, look him in the eyes and say he's bigger than Barce. Having said that though, if there is a serious problem between Messi and Luis Enrique, the solution is pretty obvious.

Ironic considering it's thanks largely to teams like Chelsea that these rules were introduced in the first place. He has a point though, you can count on one hand the amount of teams who can spend as much as Man Utd did in the summer without having to worry about breaking the FFP regulations.

Yeah it's completely true... I also hear that for the last 10 years, Utd have been investing in a time machine so they can bring back some of the all time greats, the current reports suggest they are hoping to inject a bit of pace into the team by signing the Brazilian Ronaldo from 98. To sort their defensive problems, they have Beckenbauer which I hear is a done deal and they are going to partner him with Baresi.

I agree with Rooney but if you can't don your neutral specs to respect what Di Maria brings to Utd, then you're opinion is meaningless.

I'd also agree with Blind, casual fans won't recognize his contributions but the Old Trafford faithful will, I reckon he will be the fans player of the year.

Crossing my fingers for Falcao though, once he starts finding his shooting boots, he's going to be an absolute goal machine.

Well tbh Xavi deserved to win it in 2010 however to be fair, nobody in the German team can match or beat how Xavi was that year.

Stupid stupid stupid decision. I'd have thought after the Germany thrashing that everyone would open their eyes and see who the Brazilian national team's real star man was. It's the sort of thing you see smaller national squads do, not something you'd expect from a team like Brazil. Almost takes something away from Thiago Silva also who I think has been one of the best Brazil Captains that I've seen.

That's just how Madrid do things..they always sell quality players to make room for the new big name. Like how they got rid of Robben when Ronaldo joined.

Still can't quite believe this.. Falcao is a goal machine. In the space of a week Utd have finally found players worthy of the number 7 and the number 9 shirts.

Was Messi carrying any injuries during the world cup? At times he came alive and you couldn't take your eyes off him, other times he just didn't seem interested in getting involved or putting any sort of effort in. On his day, he's the best of all time but this year at least, he just doesn't seem as motivated on the pitch.

I'm sure he'll decline, he seems to prefer Italian and Serbian cuisine.

Honestly it's hard to call who will make it to the final however with the way Brazil played in their first two matches, both Holland or Chile will knock them out imho.

Honestly, I think genius doesn't do Ronaldo credit. You just have to see how far he has came since his first season at Utd to see he combines natural talent with an unmatched obsession in training. He's the perfect role model for any aspiring athlete.

The design looks nice but that light blue colour is just horrible.

He is huge, don't think I've came across many footballers who after they retire turn to bodybuilding.

Currently Ronaldo is better.. this season, Messi seems to have lost his hunger and spends far too much time in key matches seemingly like a ghost who has little interest in being on the ball. Still, I think a motivated and hungry for the ball Messi is on a different level to Ronaldo and probably the best player of all time.

Nice to see he celebrated his contract by playing his heart out and really earning that pay cheque.. said no one ever. He spent 2/3s of the match as a ghost who made something as simple as walking seem difficult then burst into action when the ball was near him. It's no doubt that he is talented but really, he's been lazy most of the season and hasn't earned such wages. Hopefully Luis Enrique will whip him into shape.
